How Our Adventure Began

Learn More About How LecavAlier Came To Exist

Lecavalier Cellars was founded by friends who shared an enthusiasm for wine and a passion for innovation. As neighbors sharing adjacent properties in Penryn, they saw the enormous potential in planting wine grapes that would reflect the local terroir while also highlighting the area’s rich agricultural history.

As far back as the late 1800s, Placer County was known across the country for its fruit production. The first grape vines were planted in 1848 even prior to the height of the Gold Rush. The region later became a thriving wine industry as many miners tried their hand at winemaking. By the 1860s, Sierra Foothills had more vineyards and wineries than Sonoma and Napa combined.

Today, these same friends endeavor to revive the county’s viticultural past while embracing innovation. Equipped with backgrounds in aerospace engineering, medicine, and education, they continue to think outside the box as they pursue cutting-edge winemaking techniques with an unwavering dedication to sustainability.
